The Traditional Cultural Heritage of the Chinese Path to Modernization Liu Gang, Ma Shanzi, Huang Suping Teaching and Research    2024, 58 (3): 19-31.   Abstract （44）      PDF （10339KB）（276）       Knowledge map    Save Since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese path to modernization has become the theme of development of the times, and fine traditional Chinese culture has provided a profound cultural heritage for pursuing the Chinese path to modernization. This paper aims to comb through the relevant ideas in fine traditional Chinese culture, and grasp the commonalities between the Chinese and Western paths to modernization and the characteristics of the Chinese path to modernization, so as to build a solid traditional cultural foundation for the Chinese path to modernization. Research shows that the commonality between the Chinese and Western paths to modernization lies in the idea of “discarding the outdated in favor of the new”, while “when there are so many people, what should be done next”, “regarding the people as the foundation of the state”, “educating people when they are rich”, “promoting harmony between humanity and nature”, “fostering neighborliness” and other ideas in traditional culture fully reflect the characteristics of the Chinese path to modernization such as the huge population, common prosperity for all, material and culturalethical advancement, harmony between humanity and nature, and peaceful development. The construction of the Chinese path to modernization requires fully drawing strength from the countrys fine traditional culture, focusing on the core issue of “when there are so many people, what should be done next”, pursuing a development path that emphasizes both “enriching people” and “educating people”, creating a sound development environment through “promoting harmony between humanity and nature” and “fostering neighborliness”, and making the reform the fundamental driving force for development based on the idea of “discarding the outdated in favor of the new”. It is also an important content of improving people's wellbeing and a fundamental strategy to solve employment problems. To implement the employment priority strategy, we must adopt a problemoriented approach and apply systems thinking. In fact, tension is a special case of contradiction. The tension analysis method is a specific form of the contradiction analysis method. The concept of tension and the analysis method of tension have a clear thinking orientation. This is to oppose eitheror and reductionist thinking and analysis methods, and pursue a way of thinking that asks both ends, dynamic balance, and multiple integration. Different factors construct a complementary and symbiotic relationship. The concept of tension and the method of tension analysis have their harmonious connotations, which in a sense reflects the current trend of the times of “peace, development, cooperation, and winwin”. It is crucial to the development of a nation. After the global financial crisis in 2008, as China's comprehensive national power and international influence have continued to rise, western public opinion on China tends to be negative as SinoUS strategic competition continues to intensify, embodied in three stages: suspicion, vigilance and attack. The evolution of Chinarelated public opinion has the following characteristics: politicians gradually replaced academia as the main body guiding public opinion; the area of concern has changed from economyoriented to securityoriented area; stigmatizing China has become the main strategy; the emotional intensity of Chinarelated reports has gradually escalated. China is facing the challenge of deteriorating environment of international public opinion. In the light of these situations, China should be deeply aware of the importance and necessity of striving for international discourse power, and should take wise strategies and effective actions to realize its development. Foucault's power theory is a new exploration of traditional power theory. Therefore, Foucault's power theory has become a supplement to Marx's view of power. The concept of freedom and justice could be regarded as the central idea of bourgeois revolution, and Hegel conceives that the free will is the basis and origin of right. Freedom is also one of the core values of Marxs pursuit of socialism and communism. Different from Hegel, Marxs understanding of freedom starts from the economic relations in the real world. The difference in research methods leads to the different point of view on the relationship between freedom and property rights, which launches the prelude to debate between Marxism and liberalism. According to the Copenhagen security theory,security is an "utterance behavior" with special "rhetoric logic" and "cross sectional" features. However,the author points out,security as a goal is rather limited. A higher goal should be non security. The Copenhagen School identifies 5 security sections and considers these sections perspectives of studying different types of threats and different areas of security. The five sections are as follows:politics,economy,military,society and environment. The theory also attempts to explain the influence of regional aspects over models of security structure by means of "security complex".
