Is Financial Crisis the Turning Point of the American Labor Relations?
    CUI Xue-dong
    2011, (10):  13-21.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (418KB) ( )
The paper examines the influence of neo-liberalism on the American labor relations from the perspectives of financialization of economy;privatization of social security, the relationship between political parties and the trade union, and globalization of capitalist monopoly. The author maintains that as the current financial crisis does not fully reflect the crisis of neo-liberalism,it is not likely to promote changes in the American labor relations, and the financialization process will continue.Since the leading position of neo-liberalism has not been challenged, there lacks the incentives of working class movement and political advocacy to force any change in labor relations. In fact, the inferior position of the American working class is worsened by the globalization process.

    NING Guang-jie
    2011, (10):  22-29.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (383KB) ( )
The paper introduces the adjustment of German labor relations under the condition of global financial and economic crisis, and analyzes the institutional cause, the effect and the impact of this adjustment. In the era of globalization there appears a tendency in Germany that the power in collective bargaining is transferred to the enterprises to meet the needs for capital accumulation. As a consequence, the enterprises gain more power in decision-making and flexibility in terms of the working hours and wages. While these labor relations adjustment contribute to maintenance of a higher employment rate at the time of global economic crisis,it has hurt the benefits of the workers. The income gap becomes wider, and the originally stable labor relations are eroded.

From the Theory on Alienation of Labor to the Theory onAlienati on of Social Relationships——Development of Marx’s Concept of Alienation in His Paris Period
    LIU Xiu-ping
    2011, (10):  30-35.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (300KB) ( )
For a long time the theory on alienation of labor has been regarded in the academic circle as Marx’s major idea in his Paris period. Many scholars referred to it in explaining and elaborating on Marx’s idea of alienation. Some even considered that this was Marx’s lifelong idea of alienation. However,if we study Marx’s works in that period as a whole,we may find out that his idea in that period was still changing and developing.A piece of obvious evidence comes from the ideas Marx expressed when referring to James Muller’s work "Principles of Political Economy",which developed "alienation of labor" to "alienation of social relationships".This is a phenomenon that needs special attention to understand Marx in that period.Besides, from the logic of heritage of ideas, without the "theory of alienation of social relationships" as the intermediary it was impossible for Marx to move on to new explanations of the phenomenon of alienation from the perspective of historical materialism in his work "German Ideology".

    YAO Liang
    2011, (10):  42-49.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (367KB) ( )
China has now entered a period of time marked by social contradictions. How to understand, orient and handle these social contradictions may exercise direct impact on China’s social stability and social harmony.A social contradiction absorbing mechanism adopts a variety of strategies against different social contradictions. These strategies include ones that aim at "accommodating","conversion" and "release".The contradiction absorbing mechanism performs the functions of lowering the management cost of social contradictions, preventing the social contradictions from getting intensified, restricting the negative effect of social contradictions and raising their positive effect, providing channels for the release of social energy in order to digest social contradictions, advocating social vitality and promoting social coordination. The author concludes that at present China is in the right theoretical and practical condition to establish the social contradiction absorbing mechanism.Suggestions for construction of the mechanism are also proposed.

    LIU Qing-jian, ZHANG Kai
    2011, (10):  57-65.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (445KB) ( )
Since the end of the Cold War,China’s peaceful rise has met with various structural pressures from many aspects.Among them are the attempt of the American hegemony to restrain the growth of China’s power, expansion of the global strategic space, joint efforts of the US and its allies against China, the restraint of the American systemic hegemony over China’s choice and actions in international affairs, and pressures from the US against the rise of China through the neighboring countries and groups of countries. In the face of these pressures,China has effectively taken the advantage of the multi-dimensional and multilevel differentiation and combination that have resulted from the diversified interests of various big powers in the unipolar international system and the challenges of the big powers to the American hegemony to avoid the structural pressure from the international system in interaction with the United States, neighboring countries and other countries or groups of countries. Thus,China is now on the right course of peaceful and gradual rise.

    HUANG Jin-hui, DING Zhong-yi
    2011, (10):  66-73.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (396KB) ( )
Soft power has played an increasingly important role in the current international competitions, especially in the competitions of great powers. The construction of national soft power(NSP) corresponding to China’s international status has, therefore, become a critical part of China’s national strategies in the development towards a great power. An analysis of our comparative advantages and limitations in depth will contribute to upgrading construction of China’s targeted NSP.From the perspective of "resource endowment-behavior capacity",China’s comparative advantages of NSP construction mainly include the moral justice of socialist ideology, the solid foundation laid by the sustainable and rapid economic development, and the appeals to the developing countries produced by the "Chinese experience" and "Chinese model" during the modernization process. The limitations are mainly shown in the reforms of our domestic political and economic systems which are relatively lagging behind, concerns of certain western countries and neighboring countries about the rapid development of China, and the restraints they pose out of their own needs for global strategy and geographical politics.
