Promoting Social Democracy through Democracy within the Party: A Rational Choice to Realize Democracy in China
    MA Jun-feng
    2011, (5):  12-17.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1617KB) ( )
Being an inner property of modernization, democracy spreads along with the process of global modernization as a global trend. However, there is no prescribed approach or mode for all nations to follow in their efforts to realize democracy. Each nation has to make its own choice.China, for example, with its own particular circumstances and history,is now at a particular development stage of modernization. Therefore, construction of democratic politics in China cannot be done without the leadership of CPC.The paper concludes that promoting social democracy through democracy within the Party should be a rational choice of approach to realization of democracy in China.

Hu Qiaomu’s New Thought on the Party’s Philosophy of Historical Research in His Late Years
    LU Shu-yue, FANG Xiao-qiang
    2011, (5):  18-23.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1710KB) ( )
Being an expert of CPC history and a CPC leader,Hu Qiaomu pondered over what happened to the discipline of CPC history during the ten years of "great cultural revolution",which had led to his renewed ideas about how history should be studied. In view of the damage done to CPC history,Hu discussed the relation between history and politics in a scientific way.He claimed that studies of Party history should abide by the principle of integrating scienticity, diversity, historianism, academic value and reading value. In his late years,he placed much stress on the scientific methods of describing history through historical facts, and maintained that historical facts should be analyzed. These new thoughts of his contributed to new development of the studies of CPC history in redressing the chaos after the end of the "great cultural revolution".

The Economic Debate over Keynesianism and Its Enlightenment
    LI Yi-ping
    2011, (5):  24-27.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (717KB) ( )
A study of the economic history of countries of market economy established the fact that there have always been some economic theories behind the macroeconomic policies of these countries. However,as the economic policies supported by specific economic theories are meant to address particular economic issues, they may inevitably lead to unpredictable negative consequences. In this sense,China may take the advantage of being a developing country to draw on the ready lessons of developed countries. Thus, our economic policies may be more scientifically made instead of simply repeating the negative results of the failures of forerunners.

The Rise,Crises and Transformation of Listian Workfare States
    HE Zi-ying
    2011, (5):  28-35.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2044KB) ( )
Jessop,a well-known contemporary scholar, pointed out that both theories took dualism between state and market as their presupposition. While the developmental state theory is closer to the true situation of East Asia,it was especially in need of being transcended. After redefining the relationships among state, market and society,Jessop maintained that the dynamics of East Asian miracles were the accumulative strategy of exportism and the Listian workfare state. He then offered a critical analysis of the rise, characters, crises and transformation of the miracles. The paper concludes that Jessop’s political economic analysis of the East Asian miracles provides rich implications for us to reconsider the role of state and state transformation in contemporary China.

On Narration of Modernity of Capital: Marx and His Successors
    WANG Gui-lou
    2011, (5):  36-41.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1684KB) ( )
Capital occupies the central position in the operation of a modern society.Marx was the first one to start working on narration of modernity of capital. The core idea of Marx’s interpretation of capital consisted in the modern property of capital and the social relation of capital. The ideas of many later representative scholars of this field have been rooted in Marx, though from different perspectives.Luxemburg developed the proposition of capital accumulation;Hilferding defined the inevitable results of capital development as financial capital;Meizha Rose claimed that the leading operation model of capital was capital control. As long as capital narration is concerned, they are all considered successors of Marx. The author concludes that in the field of capital narration no one is able to go beyond Marx.

An Analysis of the Regression Mechanism of IR: An Interpretation Framework
    ZHAO Guang-cheng
    2011, (5):  42-49.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2047KB) ( )
The paper attempts to employ a rationalist method to study an constructivist issue, focusing on the widespread phenomenon of regression in IR.By referring to some indirect research findings and integrating rationalism and constructivism, the paper proposes a chain analytical framework of the progression/regression mechanism in international relations, covering researches of both structure and process, and system and unit.Three links are included in the chain, namely, congruence degree between identities, effective support degree among actors, and temporal dimension of structural evolution.Since it is impossible to have the actor’s old and new identities to be completely identical, the effectiveness of support functions as the critical factor that determines progression or regression of international relations. The paper holds that support is in essence a matter of political participation. The crux of regression in IR lies either in alienation of a large number of actors from the system,or in the possibility that at a crucial time actors within the system do not behave supportively.

Studies on Capital-labor Relations in the Context of Modularity Production Network
    CHEN Shuo-ying
    2011, (5):  50-55.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1353KB) ( )
Modularity production network is a global labor division system organized by multinational companies since the 1980s for purpose of flexible production.Modularity division of labor accelerates the differentiation of suppliers into first-tier suppliers and bottom suppliers, and the differentiation of labor force into core labor force and periphery labor force. The differentiation of labor force and the concentration of capital result in the restoration of domination of capital over labor, leading to the retreat of trade union and the expansion of income gap.As China participates in global division of labor, domination of capital over labor inevitably affects China. It is important for the Chinese government to understand this impact in order to adjust domestic capital-labor relations.

An Analysis of Civic Education: Theory and Structure
    LI Tu-qiang, LI Jia-fu
    2011, (5):  56-62.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1460KB) ( )
It has already been proved by developed countries that civic education is not only the foundation of modern democratic politics, but also a necessary condition for a country to be truly powerful. In China, however, the concept of citizenship is exotic, while the concept of subjects is deeply rooted in national consciousness.A transition from the concept of subjects to the concept of citizenship is a basic issue in developing modern political awareness, and, the authors remark, this is a most difficult and complex process. The paper starts with an analysis of the actual difficulties of civic education followed by a discussion of the theory and structure of civic education. In conclusion, studies of Chinese civics should be established in order to nurture modern citizens with clearly specified objectives and steps.

An Exploration into the Philosophical Basis of New Ideas——A Critical Review of Chomsky’s Philosophy of Language and Critical Discourse Theories
    GUO Qing-min
    2011, (5):  69-75.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1543KB) ( )
The paper analyzes the philosophy of language held by Chomsky and others, and compares their philosophy with the basic idea of critical discourse theories advocated by Foucault and others. It suggests that the latter, due to the political and social nature of a substantial part of their discourse data, have largely exaggerated the constraints of discursive structure or ideology on language use and freedom of thought, while the former provide a more reasonable philosophical account of the birth of new political and social ideas.Creative use of language enables its users to employ finite linguistic means to generate an infinite number of new expressions, and, along with these expressions, endless new ideas and thoughts. These new ideas represent new ways of thinking and talking about the world, thus satisfying our mental need for originality.

The Constructive Tendency of Security Studies
    WANG Xue-jun
    2011, (5):  76-82.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1580KB) ( )
IR studies under the rationalist paradigm have long neglected the conceptual factors like culture and norms on international security relationships. Thus, they fail to properly interpret various policy changes of different countries and the security relationships among them.In view of this problem, conceptual factors are gradually introduced to IR studies. The rise of constructivist IR theories, which stress the conceptual factors, has exerted a strong influence on security studies, and the constructivist school of security studies is formed. The constructivist theories emphasize the social and constructive nature of security interest and security relationships. They also emphasize the influence of subjective factors of identity and norms on national security interest and international security relationships. The mutual construction of national security action and the structure of security culture is also their primary concern.Constructivist security studies have broken through the restriction of the rationalist basic concepts and assumptions, and opened a door to reconstruction of international political security logic.
