Reflections on the "Economic Man" Hypothesis——An Attribution Analysis of the Global Economic Crisis in 2008
    FANG Zhu-lan
    2011, (2):  22-29.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1714KB) ( )
The one-sidedness of the"economic man"hypothesis,to a certain extent, lies in its reinforcing the concept of monetary wealth while weakening the concept of physical forms of wealth. Thus,it encourages the social mentality and social inertia of indulging in financial speculation. The fact that the price in the virtual market is unscrupulous manipulated by opportunists shows that the law of value suitable for operation in real economy based on the "economic man" hypothesis is not capable of regulating the operation process in virtual economy. The function of this "invisible hand" need be reexamined. The author points out that "economic man" hypothesis neglects the mutual restraint and reliance of the self-interest of economic entities.Consequently,an in-depth analysis of fairness in distribution of social wealth is missing. The author holds that the autonomous quality of the market entities is an internal requirement for healthy operation of market economy, and this is not optional.Self-interest and autonomy should be two mutually complementary aspects of the personality of market entities. The private property rights system alone may not necessarily guarantee that the individuals’ pursue of material benefits will automatically lead to social benefits.

    On Historical Materialism and Historicism
    SONG You-wen
    2011, (2):  37-44.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2012KB) ( )
The relation between Marxism and the problem of historicism presents a new approach to understanding historical materialism.Historical materialism successfully resolves the methodology problem of historicism through finite unification of nature and history and dialectical unification of structure and history.Historicism is not merely a type of methodology. It is supported by a profound conception of history. The historical materialist solution to its methodology problem does not stay at the methodological level either.Historical materialism has resorted to the "theory of limited objectives" of human perceptual activities to solve the historicist dilemma of "having to rely on God".Thus, the fundamental problem of historicism about the significance of history is solved.

    BAI Yun-zhen
    2011, (2):  45-52.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1396KB) ( )
Nowadays, regional integration has become an important phenomenon in international political economics. The increasing interdependence of regions and the globalization process have expanded the perspectives of regionalist political economics. The author holds that application of the method of regionalist political economics may assist focused examinations of the economic significance, political impact, and the influence of economic and political interaction on the development of regional integration. The analysis framework of regionalism is composed of four theoretical perspectives of international political economics, namely, realism, liberalism, constructivism and critical theories. But the political economic analysis of regionalization should not be confined to the discipline of international political economics. It should be extended to political economics in a broader sense.Diachronic comparative studies on the basis of analytic methodology of eclecticism can be a good case in point.

    WU Zheng-yu
    2011, (2):  61-68.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1897KB) ( )
Since the end of the Cold War and the collapse of USSR,one of the most remarkable changes in world politics is the shift of geographical political center of Eurasia from West Europe to East Asia. This shift has posed a challenge to the American grand strategy in the early part of the 21st century. For if the United States wants to maintain its leading position in the world in the post-cold war era,it has to make major adjustment to its current grand strategy to reflect the dramatic changing reality with respect to geographical politics. The author points out that in accordance with the geographical and political changes that happened after the Cold War(especially the rise of China) the focus of the American grand strategy in the early part of the 21st century will also shift from West Europe to East Asia. This means that the United States shall develop new technologies and find new allies.

On the Postmodern Views of Science
    HAO Yuan, MENG Jian-wei
    2011, (2):  84-91.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2077KB) ( )
Postmodern views of science can be roughly differentiated as the deconstructive postmodern view of science and constructive postmodern view of science.Being subversion and transcendence of the modern view of science, deconstructive postmodern view of science dissolves objectivity and empirical foundation, abandons rationality, and deconstructs the grand narrative.Constructive postmodern view of science,on the other hand, reconstructs objectivity, extends the meaning of experience, reconstruct rationality and scientific cultural paradigm.Postmodern views of science highlights the humanistic elements of natural science, but its relativism and nihilism pose threats to the harmonious development of science and humanities. The reconstruction of contemporary view of science should critically draw on the rational thoughts from postmodern views of science but should not blindly follow its relativism and nihilism.
