On the Germanic Development Path of China (Ⅰ)——A Study of Marx’s Pre-capitalist Modes of Production
    HAN Li-xin
    2011, (1):  5-17.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (4166KB) ( )
Marx had proposed a theory of three-stage development path of human society, namely, community, civil society, and future community,in the work Pre-capitalist Modes of Production(Formen, die der kapitalistischen Produktion vorhergehen,1857-1858).This was different from his conception of world history his late years.According to later conception,of the three types of original communities,i.e.the Asian community, the Ancient community, and the Germanic community, only the Germanic community would evolve to civil society, while the Asian community would not be able to realize this transition on its own.Contrary to this prediction, the year 1978 witnessed certain Germanic elements in China such as "the division of labor and property",and, under the influence of which,China is contemporarily on the path of "Germanic"development. The author concludes that at the present stage,in order to interpret the Chinese development,we need to shift the interpretation framework from Marx’s "conception in his late years"to the one he proposed in Pre-capitalist Modes of Production.

German,British and American Scholars’ Misunderstanding of Marx’s Superstructure Theory
    HU Wei-xiong
    2011, (1):  18-26.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2878KB) ( )
The author points out that the German,British and American scholars have not systematically studied Marx’s concept of superstructure and thus are unable to grasp the rich connotation of this metaphoric concept. They do not know that superstructure actually covers metaphors of ideas, concepts, political structure, political power and political behaviors, credit and virtual capital and so on.Nor are they aware that the concept of superstructure has undergone a transition from ideas to political structure.Among German scholars,Kirchner fails to clearly define superstructure,Habermas even considers that it is no longer suitable to refer to Marx’s theory of economic base and superstructure to analyze the society and the state in the era of capitalism when the state interferes into economy.Larrain,a British scholar, holds that there exists the problem of "the development of the reflection theory mingling with the metaphor of base-superstructure".McMurtry,an American scholar, considers that Marx’s division of economic base and superstructure is obscure, and Jameson holds that Marx’s definition of a classical model of base-superstructure does not live up to the needs of social development. Some of them attempt to deny Marx’s theory by referring to the complicated situations in the process of social development and social, economic and political changes with an intention of restructuring historical materialism. However, they have not only failed to reach new accomplishment, but have also given rise to misleading ideas. The author points out that as superstructure is a metaphorical concept,it is only natural that it may incur disputing ideas or misunderstanding.

Privatization and Nationalization: Theory and Reality
    ZHU An-dong
    2011, (1):  48-55.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2714KB) ( )
There has been a worldwide wave of privatization during the last two decades of the 20th century, the low efficiency of state-owned enterprises being its theoretical support. However, the blame that state-owned enterprise is of low efficiency is not theoretically convincing, nor is it supported by evidence. The severe consequences of privatization in some countries suggest that the advantages of privatization might have been exaggerated to a large degree. The wave of nationalization in many countries offers evidence that under certain circumstances nationalization may be a good solution to some social economic problems.
