The Core Socialist Value System and Scientific Concept of Development
    MA Jun-feng
    2009, (3):  5-10.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (561KB) ( )
The value system is an integration of value concepts, value norms and value dynamics. The norm of value is the actual social manifestation of value concepts and functions as a direct control of value choice in reality that regulates the value orientation. The author holds that we should refer to Marxism for a guideline to distinguish value guidance and value orientation in order to handle them appropriately.Establishment of the core socialist value system that combines the historical and current advantages of socialism requires that we grasp the key issues of value norm construction and institutional innovation, and mobilize the efforts of the whole society.

On Marx’s Transcendence over Philosophical Materialism and the Revolutionary Significance of His New Materialism——A Review of "Marx’s Natural Concept" by Schimitt
    LIU Wei-chun, LIU Huai-yu
    2009, (3):  11-18.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1509KB) ( )
For a long time in the 20th century, the relation of Marx’s new materialism and philosophical materialism remained a controversial issue.Traditional Russian textbooks had over emphasized the sameness and relevance of the two, claiming that new materialism was the highly developed basic principle of traditional materialism. Thus, new materialism was being over simplified while the essential difference between the two was neglected.Contrary to the ideas expressed in the Russian textbooks,Marxists in the west merely elaborated on the heterogeneous character of new materialism and philosophical materialism, claiming that new materialism was a direct negation of philosophical materialism. Thus, the internal link of the two was denied. The authors hold that understanding the relation of new materialism and philosophical materialism correctly is not only necessary for us to understand the historic significance of Marx’s new materialism, but it may also contribute to our understanding of the true revolutionary nature of new materialism. While new materialism and philosophical materialism are related, they differ in some aspects.Philosophical materialism is the point of departure of new materialism, but new materialism has surpassed it at a higher level, leading to realization of the first theoretical revolution in the history of philosophy. This transcendence has also predicted a great revolution of new materialism against reality.

On Circulation Organization Theory of Marxist Economics
    SONG Xian-ping
    2009, (3):  19-25.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1082KB) ( )
Marx’s theory of circulation organization is not confined to analyzing the circulation organization.Instead, the analysis is based on integration of the circulation organization and the production organization and addresses the dynamic combination of the two.Barrow and Sweezy paid special attention to the circulation organization theory. They believed that under circumstances of integration, production organization and circulation organization would mix up.Braverman,on the other hand, claimed that formation of circulation organization was the result of division of work, and with further development of division of work circulation organization would assume an increasingly important position. The study of circulation organization theory of Marxist economics has been developed from the perspective of its combination with production organization. The author points out that evolution process of circulation organization from the Ford production mode to the post-Ford production mode has offered strong evidence to support circulation organization theory of Marxist economics.

Foreign Direct Investment of Chinese Enterprises:Characters, Theoretical Explorations, and Implications
    TAN Yan-zhi
    2009, (3):  26-31.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1077KB) ( )
Since the start of implementing the reform and open-up policies 30 years ago,the foreign investment of Chinese enterprises have showed marked characters in terms of the scale, the coverage of industries, and the foreign countries involved. This phenomenon can not be fully explained by the theories proposed on the basis of developed countries or other developing countries. The Chinese enterprises’ rapidly progressive trend of investment abroad can be attributed to their technological capabilities of sustainable effect, which is seen as a new perspective for FDI.Correlational analysis of this may shed light on our understanding of factors concerning enterprise theories.

Effect of China’s Urbanization Process on Quality of Environment——An Empirical Study of Prefecture-level Cities of China
    ZHANG Quan
    2009, (3):  32-38.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1970KB) ( )
This paper attempts to apply the panel data model of cross-section dependence developed by Driscoll and Kraay(1998) to test the correlation between urbanization process and quality of environment by referring to the panel data of cities in the period of 1997 to 2001 and using different indications of urbanization.Theoretically speaking, there exist two different views concerning the effect of urbanization on environmental quality: raising or deteriorating the quality of environment. The former refers to the direct effect of human activities, the latter refers to the indirect consequences of environment regulation. The paper finds out that definition of urbanization based on the ratio of non-agricultural population in the city against the population of the whole city shows positive effect on the quality of the environment. However,if defined by the size of the city avea, acceleration of urbanization process may result in obvious negative effect of the environmental quality.Meanwhile, economic variables like population density and proportion of manufacture industry also pose negative effect on the environmental quality.Findings of this study offers important implications for policy-making concerning urbanization process in China.

    2009, (3):  46-54.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2182KB) ( )
With the further development of Sino-American relation, the competition in soft power becomes a major issue, especially in Southeast Asia,an area with unique historical, geographical, and humanistic characteristics where both countries have invested much in terms of diplomatic resources. In this diplomatic tournament in Southeast Asia, the United States has relied on its tremendous hard power to obtain advantages in soft power.China,on the other hand, has gained much by resorting to her soft power diplomatic achievements. The author emphasizes that in this competition of soft power,China has to adopt effective strategies against the United States. For this purpose,it is necessary to compare and study the causes that have led to the differences between the two countries in terms of soft power.

    ZHAO Yin-liang
    2009, (3):  55-62.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1214KB) ( )
The author observed that EU has achieved a significant policy innovation. The EU integration process is closely related to innovation in mechanisms of regional conflict resolution. The EU-led "Europeanization" mode of conflict management represents a process of "linking the final outcome of the conflict with the degree of integration or other association of conflict management." EU integration has become an important factor that contributes to the stability of the post World War Ⅱ order in Europe, and presents a working alternative for resolution of regional conflicts.
