From Mao Zedong Thought to Scientific Concept of Development——On Relations of Mao Zedong Thought and Theories of Socialism Characteristics of the Chinese Style
    LI Jie
    2008, (7):  5-15.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2037KB) ( )
The Chinese Communists represented by Mao Zedong have achieved much progress in explorations of the Chinese socialist construction. This has been realized through efforts of successful estalishment of the basic socialist system, the resolution and implementation of the guidelines of the 8th Congress of CPC,and reflections over the positive and negative experience of the "great leap forward".This progress has been an inseparable component of the scientific theoretical system of Mao Zedong thought, and is considered continuation and extension of the first historical leap in localizing Marxism after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. This is also the motives and source of wisdom for constant theoretical innovation in the period of reform,open-up and the four modernizations. The second historical leap of localizing Marxism was achieved by the Chinese Communists represented by Deng Xiaoping. It has been realized through efforts of setting up the path to and socialist theories of socialism characteristics of the Chinese style. This has been achieved by accurately and thoroughly understanding Mao Zedong thought, returning to the guidelines of the 8th Congress of CPC,and by systematic interpretation of the scientific system of Mao Zedong thought. The author claims that this practice shows a dialectical nature of developing while restoring and holding on to the scientific aspects of the past experience, and restoring and holding on to the scientific aspects of the past experience while developing in the process of drawing lessons from history and looking forwad to the future. It is in this process that Deng Xiaoping ideas gradually took shape and integrated with Mao Zedong thought, indicating clearly the course of the first and second leaps of localization of Marxism in China. The "three represents" and the scientific concept of development that continue to enrich the socialist theories in the Chinese style, have also been nurtured by Mao Zedong thought for innovative ideas and wisdom. Thus, they are linked to Marxism,Leninism and Mao Zedong thought and keep being updated with the passage of time. All these phenomena repeatedly point to a truth, that is,the basic principles in Marxism whose values have been proved through practice need to be refreshed and updated by new ideas and new ways in order to maintain its contemporary significance, and to stay innovative, active and alive.

Reform,Development,Stability and Harmony:from the Perspective of Interest Mechanism
    GUO Zhan, TAN Qing-hua
    2008, (7):  16-22.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (830KB) ( )
The authors maintain that reform, development, stability and harmony are all related to interests and are woven together by allocation of interests.Reform inherently means reallocation of interests.Once an efficient mechanism of interests is established, social development will result. In other words,it is through the effort of interest-driven and interest-balancing mechanism that social development is accomplished.Furthermore, without the interest-balancing mechanism social development may not be sustainable, and worse still, may even interfere with social stability. In this sense, the basic function of interest-balancing mechanism is to keep social stability. When positive interative relation of the interest-driven and interest-balancing mechanism is maintained, scientific development at the operational level and harmonious development in terms of social status will be achieved. The paper concludes that this reflects the law of construction of socialist modernization in China, and points to the essential property of it.

    ZENG Xiang-quan, LU Liang
    2008, (7):  23-27.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1178KB) ( )
The paper holds that by the year 2020,the Chinese total labor resources will have shown a periodical fluctuation curve of high-low-high.The population involved in economic activities will gradually decrease. The number of laborers in different age groups will also undergone various changes.Despite of all this, the pressure for employment will remain serious. In face of the changes in the labor market, the government should adjust the employment policy accordingly.Quality of employment should be improved, employment capacity of the labors should be raised, attention should be paid to sustainable development of economy, various relevant policies should be integrated, and flexisbility of the labor market should be maintained. All this can not be realized unless the forceful regulating and moniroring functions of the government are well performed.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (1646KB) ( )
The authors have observed that politics of power has long been the central issue in theoretical research of international politics, while politics of rights has been neglected, consciously or subconsciously. This paper attempts to trace the theories of politics of power in the course of history to clarify the concept of politics of rights, and to identify the existence of politics of rights from the evolution of the theories of politics of power. The existence of politics of rights is then justified and rationalized from the perspective of modern international relation and international law.In light of this analysis, the basic developmental trend of international politics from politics of power to politics of rights is discussed.

"The Four Great Syntheses" and IR Theory Synthesizing Trend
    ZHENG Xian-wu
    2008, (7):  49-56.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2316KB) ( )
Over the last nine decades,IR Theory went through four Great Syntheses. The first Great Synthesis was "academic pluralism" was developed into classic realism in the 1940s.The second Great Synthesis was that of neo-realism and neo-liberal institutionalism, and they shared a rationalist research programme in the 1980s.The third Great Synthesis was the emergence of "the middle ground" such as the conventional constructivism and the English School between rationalism and reflectivism in the 1990s.The fourth Great Synthesis was the emergence of "the third way" which interplayed among rationalism,"the middle ground" and reflectivism, and moved it towards a holistic theoretical approach to understand the global transformation."The third way" begins to reject a "continuity thesis" such as stare-centrism and international anarchy, and designs to capture a "transformation thesis" such as state-market-society complexes and world community or world society.

On Marx’s Method of Totality and Its Value in Discipline Development
    ZHANG Yun-fei
    2008, (7):  57-63.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1124KB) ( )
Marx defined totality as the indivisable function of interdependence, interrelation, mutual influence, and interactions among aspects of relevance.Method of totality is an approach of overall analysis,i.e.to analyze things or objects by placing them in a complex structure or context in a dialectic way of thinking.Marx’s method of totality is the methodological foundation of establishing and grasping the wholeness of Marxism. It also offers methodological guidance for strengthening and promoting development of Maxist basic principles as a discipline. The author concludes that development of this discipline can be achieved by approaching it from an overall perspective, that is,attending to the object, the sturcture, the methods and the function.

The Reason Why Marx Insisted on Value Theory of Living Labor
    ZHAO Zhun
    2008, (7):  71-76.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1490KB) ( )
The reason why Marx insisted on value theory of living labor is because value stands for a social relation, and human relation can only be that of labor relation. The theory takes "the general economic law of human society" as the point of departure, and advocates that "labor employs capital" be used to allocate social resources. It argues that the essence of value is the actual application of "the law of time-saving and proportional distribution of the total amount of labor in a society" in the commodity economy.
