    JI Bao-cheng, ZHANG Yu
    2005, (11):  5-15.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1512KB) ( )
The authors maintain that the establishment and development of the Chinese economics should be guided by Marxism,Leninism,Mao Zedong thought,Deng Xiaoping theory and the important ideas of "three represents". Meanwhile,Chinese economics should draw on the findings of economic studies abroad and the essence of all the achievements of civilization.Development of Chinese economics should be deeply rooted in the practice of reform and development in China to satisfy the basic interests of the people. We should unremittingly strive for autonomous explorations and innovations in order to establish a set of economic theories that bear the Chinese character in the Chinese manner, making contributions to the great cause of socialism characteristic of the Chinese style and to the revival of China as well.

Shift the Focus of IR Studies to China,Bridge Theory and Practice
    MEN Hong-hua
    2005, (11):  28-31.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (475KB) ( )
The coincidence of world transformation and China’s rise broadens the space that China’s international strategy can reshape. The mainstream Western IR paradigms are responding to the situation but could not effectively interpret the rise of China;while China’s IR studies still remain as the follower of the Western counterpart. The author advocates that it is the hard time to shift the focus of IR studies to China and bridge the IR theoretical paradigms and the actual practices taking place in China. To reach this goal, the author suggests improving studies on China’s world ideal,on the strategies of great-power-rise,and on theoretical foundations of policy analysis.

    GUO Shu-yong
    2005, (11):  36-39.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (373KB) ( )
As conditions of the growth of big powers there are both specific requirements and general requirements. The latter demand close studies of the relation between the growth of the country in question and international society. This is because the international society is the basic social background for the country to develop, and the power itself is the consequence of the interaction of different countries in the world.Powers are usually the main suppliers of the common goods for the world, and often play partly a role of organizers in world affairs. In addition, powers are to demonstrate good international images, performing the role of the norm and representing a moral model to the world.

    FANG Chang-ping
    2005, (11):  40-43.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (661KB) ( )
Among the findings of studies in China’s foreign policies, the ones from the perspective of political studies are insufficient. In this sense, reinforcing political studies of China’s foreign policies is both a new demand of China’s diplomacy and a new research topic in China’s international relations and diplomatic studies with obvious theoretical, academic and policy-making significance. This article then proposes a preliminary research framework that embraces the structure and process of domestic political system, and top political leaders as well.

Advocating Chinese Perspective in Studies of New Regionalism
    GENG Xie-feng
    2005, (11):  44-47.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (926KB) ( )
There are two common perspectives in studies of new regionalism among Chinese scholars of international relations. They are: using existing international relation theories to interpret the phenomenon of new regionalism, and using theories of new regionalism to promote regional unification.Till now no systematic theoretical frame has been established yet.In order to promote further studies of new regionalism, the author suggests that four tasks are to be undertaken. They are: resume China-oriented focus in the study and approach research topics from the Chinese perspective;establish a regionalist theoretical frame characteristics of East Asia in the light of macro strategies;further the research on regional unification, put forward the "Chinese proposal";strengthen studies on regional governance with the intention of discovering new models of governance and good governance in East Asia.

Problems in and Reflections on Studies of International Relations in China
    YU Tie-jun
    2005, (11):  51-55.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (742KB) ( )
In recent years, more attention has been directed to problems in the studies of international relations in China, namely, separation of theory and practice, lack of originality in theory, methodology that lags behind, irregular academic criteria and weakness in academic criticism. As a result of reflections on these issues, the author suggests that being aware of these problems in our own studies will promote combination of international relation theories with practice and will be a means to ensure theoretical innovation. We should take advantage of our tradition in emphasizing history to enhance dialogue between theory and history, reinforce researches on methodology by adding to our store of knowledge skills of quantitative studies and improving our ability to conduct qualitative studies.Meanwhile,we should not neglect establishment of academic criteria to carry out academic criticism scientifically.

From Methods to Views: On the Course of Marxist Ideas in the West
    SUN Yu-xia, ZHANG Li-bo
    2005, (11):  56-61.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (861KB) ( )
A diachronic study of the attitude of western Marxists towards Marxism will establish a course of development in terms of methods and views. Both Marx and Engels were strongly against dogmatism.Lenin also stressed the importance of Marxist methodology. In this sense, the western Marxists are justified in emphasizing the significance of Marxist methodology, for it shows to a considerable degree their understanding and application of the creativity and openness of Marxism.Nevertheless, their moves in methods and enlarged views reveal that their grasp of Marxism tends to be abstract.

Controversy over "Strong" or "Weak" Programme in the Modern Science of Knowledge
    JIA Xiang-tong
    2005, (11):  62-67.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1451KB) ( )
There are two completely different camps in the studies of the science of knowledge on the relationship between social aspects and external reality, namely, the traditional "weak programme",and the "strong programme" represented by the scientific sociology of knowledge. The "weak" version represents the conventional concept of scientific knowledge. It considers knowledge the product of human rationality and therefore should not be interfered by social aspects. The "strong" version,on the other hand, attempts to extend application of the rules of cause-and-effect and symmetry in analyzing humanity and social knowledge to analyses of scientific knowledge. They demand that "impartial" and "symmetrical" explanations should be applied to all human beliefs, including knowledge of natural science.
