    Communicative Rationalitv: Critique and Utopia
    CHEN Zhi-gang
    2004, (11):  16-22.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2731KB) ( )
The idea of communicative rationality centered on intersubjectivity is proposed by Habermas as a result of his reflection on the dilemma Max Weber and the Frankfurt School faced in the critique of instrumental rationality. It is an attempt to overcome colonization in the life-world by developing communicative rationality. The author points out that while Habermas’ analyses of the lifeworld and political alienation have contributed to Marxism, he misunderstands the conceptions of praxis and labor by Marx, and his criticism of the concept of labor is not justified. As a result, Habermas himself is trapped in the philosophy of consciousness and confined to language philosophy. His communicative rationality is after all a Utopia.

Examining the Meta-theory of Dialectic Production Mode——Reflection and Proclamation of Engels
    HU Xiao
    2004, (11):  23-28.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2623KB) ( )
At the time when Marx and Engels proposed historical materialism they had explained the principle of dialectic production mode as a theoretical foundation. However, they failed to give full explanations of the decisive function of productive force and counter-reaction mechanism of productive relations, which in turn had led to consequent misunderstanding among their successors who simplified these terms. In his late years Engels had reflected on this, pointing out the historical reasons, expressed his regret due to inaccurate generalization of theories, and lessons drawn from this in terms of social epistemology. Such examination meta-theory may enable us to achieve more profound understanding of the dialectics in historical materialism, so that we may be more consciously represent the developmental requirement of advanced productive force.

    LI Qun
    2004, (11):  29-33.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2517KB) ( )
Managed trade means neither free trade nor protected trade. Instead, it maintains characteristics of both. The spread of policies of managed trade is in line with the maxim of state interest. Similarly, economic internationalization does not mean worldwide free trade, either. Under circumstances of economic internationalization, trade protection will not be eliminated on account of both the profits on the part of various parties within a country, and aspects of international relations. Therefore, policies of managed trade become the inevitable choice for all countries.

    HUANG Li-ke
    2004, (11):  52-58.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2663KB) ( )
Political business cycle refers to the cyclical economic fluctuation caused by political operations. According to the macroeconomics, the government is supposed to be a rational designer responsible for eliminating factors that will lead to economic fluctuation. Theorists of political business cycle, however, view the government as an internal variable in economy. Policy makers in the government are insiders of policies. They will see to it that the macroeconomic policies maximize their probability of winning elections. And it is this aspect that leads to cyclical economic fluctuation.
