    2002, (4):  5-10.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (574KB) ( )
Entry into WTO marks the dawn of a new era of reform and open-up in China. What WTO aims at is regulation of a free market. And it is the government that is subject to this regulation. It requires that the government take measures such as lowering the tariff, eliminating non-tariff barriers and establishing trade of services in order to establish an open market. With a large number of powerful multinationals swarming in enterprises at home will meet with severe challenges. Therefore, making the right choice of strategies of reform and development that can best enable the Chinese enterprises to handle the severe competitions in the market becomes an important issue. It is essential that we resort to science and technology to cultivate the core capacity for competition required of enterprises. In this way, the enterprises will become more competitive not only with lower cost of production, but also because they are better equipped with more advanced technology. Realization of all this, however, the author points out, depends heavily on innovation of the management system within enterprises.

On Multinationals: Impact of Science and Technology on International Politics
    XIN Ping
    2002, (4):  51-56.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (823KB) ( )
Multinationals, which are intimately involved in progress of science and technology, are exercising an increasingly greater influence on international politics. First, it is development of science and technology that has promoted the formation and growth of multinationals. The formation and growth of multinationals, in turn, have led to further progress of science and technology. Second, advanced science and technology is the most advantageous element of multinationals, which accounts for their power. For this reason, multinationals actually function as a medium for science and technology to influence international politics. The author suggests that we examine the nature and development of the influence of multinationals on international politics with the relation between multinationals and science and technology as the point of departure, concentrating on the historic function of science and technology, in order to reach profound understanding of this phenomenon.
