Chinese philosophers have long made a distinction between "conformity" and "submission" with an emphasis on the ideas that "conforming but not submitting identical". "Conformity" involves natural existence and thus inherits values of noumenon accordingly. In the light of theory of noumenon, conformity means unity of varieties or unity of variances. What it claims is the material existence. As a principle of values in humanism, conformity refutes one sidedness, works towards material existence, and guarantees unity of the society and the individuals through respect for and tolerance to differences and variances.

Wallerstein is regarded as a "new Marxist scholar" among academic circles in the West. The modern world system he founded was heavily influenced by Marxism, but it is deviated from the capitalist system of production and trade defined by Marx.Besides, when Engels mentioned the capitalist world-system he was only referring to a general concept, not an academic theory.Nevertheless, modern world-system as a theory and method of analysis is deeply rooted in the social reality based on academic and methodological traditions. It offers another perspective for Western scholars to evaluate capitalism in the light of Marxism.

    ZHANG Jing
    2002, (5):  56-61.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (758KB) ( )
One of the consequences of globalization is the collision of different cultures. What will these collisions lead the culture of the world to? Will the culture of the world become homogeneous or even more heterogeneous? This article holds that neither will happen because of the dual factors of cultural im perialism and cultural subject.Coexistence of the conflicting tendencies of homogeneity and heterogeneity will be present simultaneously in the course of globalization.
