Development of Non-publicly Owned Enterprises and Their Adjustment of Labor Relation
    YU Mei-zhen
    2001, (8):  12-17.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (670KB) ( )
The issue of adjusting labor relation in non-publicly owned enterprises is one that affects unification of economic goals and social development goals in the reform towards market economy and the healthy development of the enterprises themselves in the long run. Due to imperfect mechanism in the labor market, insufficient regulations, and limited functions of trade unions, cases in which workers are deprived of certain benefits are on the rise. Consequently, a series of social disputes and problems arise. The author suggests that the key to adjustment of labor relation in non-publicly owned enterprises lies in perfection of management.

The Philosophical Course of Modern China
    SUN Zheng-yu
    2001, (8):  18-26.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2471KB) ( )
The philosophical course of a country is a theoretical indication of the historical course of that country at a particular period of time. It is also a theoretical indication of the people’s spiritual course at that particular time. In this sense, introspection over the course of philosophy, over the philosophical logic it embodies, and the future of philosophy it predicts at the turn of the century, are considered a historical mission for philosophers in China today. Generally speaking, the philosophical course in contemporary China can be described as starting from re-interpretation of Marxist philosophy, through open understanding of philosophy, to creative reconstruction of Marxist philosophy. This philosophical course theoretically symbolizes the historic course of modern China and the spiritual course of the Chinese people.

Possibility of Global Political Ethic and Development Tendency of Chinese Political Ethic
    CHEN Yi-ping
    2001, (8):  27-32.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (681KB) ( )
The global political ethic develops on the basis of comparing various forms of political civilizations in the world, and "a sense of global political ethic" comes into being on the basis of dialectically integrating concepts of multielement and unification, and concepts of universality, locality and regional factors as well. The tendency of reinforcing unification from modern enlightenment in the West should be redressed in developing national political ethic and, at the same time, value nihilism and relativism should be guarded against. The author points out that globalization inserts double influence on development of Chinese political ethic, and that we should construct socialist political ethic characteristic of the Chinese style.

National Security under Circumstances of Economic Globalization
    XIAO Wei, QIAN Jian-xing
    2001, (8):  33-39.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1292KB) ( )
The author observes that although economic globalization provides new opportunities of development, there are more challenges than opportunities for the third world countries. Therefore, it is increasingly important for them to find ways to meet the challenges, to undergo systemic reform in order to adapt to the new situation, and to guard against, avoid or lessen negative influence of economic globalization. The author emphasizes that national security is not merely a matter of passively guarding against foreign countries. Instead, it should be related to reform, development and stability at home. A country can be safe in this respect only by maintaining regularized open-up to the outside and establishing a sound system from inside.

Some Potential Obstacles to the Third Road
    LIN Xiao-fang
    2001, (8):  53-58.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1179KB) ( )
The third road has attempted explorations of renewal of ideas and political practice. That explains why its advocators consider it a new political possibility in the Post Cold War period and the era of globalization. However, the third road bears features of duality. The author points out that while the third road maintains features of being mean, pragmatic, revisionism and weakening spirit of criticism which make it appear creative, it is also likely that these characters may block its own development.

On Research in Epistemology: Retrospection and Expectations
    ZHANG Ming-cang
    2001, (8):  59-63.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1010KB) ( )
Research in epistemology has long been taking the lead in the study of modern philosophy in China. The study of modern Chinese epistemology has arisen out of a profound background of practice, science and philosophy. In the recent twenty years or so modern Chinese epistemology has made substantial progress in the study of basic category, proposition, principle, and research area, thinking style, research personnel and research findings as well. However, it faces severe challenges too, from the new globalization, the new revolution of science and technology, and knowledge economy. The key to further development of research in modern Chinese epistemology is to appropriately handling issues of scientific orientation, transformation of style and actualization of functions.

Post modernist theory of democratic secular life emphasizes democracy in daily life and in cultural life. The theory holds diversity and democratic communication as its major themes. It is a typical example that indicates the new tendency in the process of constructing democratic politics in the information era in the West. That is, a shift from the area of system to the area of culture.
