Probing the Foundation of Marx's Thoughts from the Perspective

    WANG Bo-Lu
    2013, 47 (6):  39-46.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1623KB) ( )
Historical view is Karl Marx's basic view, and historical analysis his basic method to study a given problem.Because of technology's fundamental importance in social production and life,Marx tried especially hard to track down and scrutinize the history of technology, consciously exploring the issues of technological philosophy.Based on an extensive reading of books on the history of technology and his newly-acquired technological knowledge,Marx advanced the theory of organ extension in relation to the origin and nature of technology, investigated the evolution of production tools in detail, and achieved a series of research results in that field. Those results,in turn, helped to support the establishment of Marx's theoretical system.

The Order of Core Values and Socialist Core Values
    ZHANG Yong-Zhi
    2013, 47 (6):  47-53.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1370KB) ( )
The fostering and development of socialist core values is a long-term process. We must seek a breakthrough in research paths and methodology. As an important part of a given value, value order relates directly to value evaluation and judgment.A particular sequencing of values always reflects and represents particular values;it is by no means negligible for the study of socialist core values. In face of the current-day pluralism and diversity of value, and to change the reality of unreasonable value sequencing and a wide range of individual value sequencing,we urgently need a widely shared value order, namely the order of core values. The proper ordering of core values and the development of socialist core values are a major issue of our times.Despite different research focuses, they interact with and promote each other, working together to reconstruct modern value order and help to shape the modern value order of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Rethinking the Relationship between Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Scientific Socialism
    YAN Zhi-Min
    2013, 47 (6):  54-60.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1317KB) ( )
]Since 1917,the major problem of how to build socialism in an economically and culturally backward country has remained to be solved in the field of scientific socialism. This is a long, arduous historical process. The kind of socialism founded in such countries, branded with the salient features of traditional society, can be called traditional socialism. There is a marked difference,in terms of their respective degrees of development, between traditional socialism and the classical socialism foreseen by Marx and Engels during their lifetimes. There are two principal modes of socialism to economically and culturally backward countries: Soviet Union mode of socialism and the Chinese mode of socialism.Over the last hundred years or so,socialism throughout the world has been transformed, from traditional socialism mode towards contemporary socialism mode. Thus, world socialism has entered a new phase of development.Judging from the historical trend of development of world socialism, socialism with Chinese characteristics embodies the highest order of the contemporary social institutional pattern of scientific socialism;it is the latest development of scientific socialism in China.

Social Structural Change and the Development of China's Social Security System
    HAN Ke-Qing
    2013, 47 (6):  61-68.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1638KB) ( )
It is important to study the development of China's social security system from the perspective of social structural change.Based on an examination of China's social changes, this essay scrutinizes the changing social context and factors facing the social security system in China. Then it summarizes major achievements in this regard: firstly, with the development of the social security system, the disadvantageous status of industrial workers has been reversed;secondly, the grassroots Chinese have been protected with relevant welfare programs;thirdly, the basic rights of migrant workers from rural areas have been secured.Nevertheless, these successes do not necessarily imply that resource allotment between different social strata can already be regarded as equal and fair.Drawing on this argument, this essay proposes principal goals for the social security system's future development and relevant policy options.

Can the Chinese Economy Achieve Sustainable Development? ——with Reference to the “Middle-Income Trap”
    JIANG Shao-Min
    2013, 47 (6):  69-79.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2078KB) ( )
After decades of development,China has been growing fast economically;it has become a middle-income nation. How to make this growth sustainable,or rather, how can the middle-income trap be avoided? This is a question plaguing most of us.Latin America started industrializing itself early compared with other parts of the world. For quite a long time, its economy grew rapidly, bringing up ordinary people's incomes. However, since the beginning of the “Lost Decade” triggered by the region's debt crisis in the 1980s,the Latin American economy has slowed down a lot, barring most countries of the region from joining the high-income ranks. In contrast, the East Asian region, which started its process of industrialization in the 1950s,has achieved both a rapid rise to prosperity and income growth.Hence,it would be in China's own interest to study the merits and demerits of East Asian and Latin American experiences.

On Early Modern Intellectuals'Selective Dissemination of Marxism in the Chinese Context ——with an analysis of the Manifesto of the Communist Party
    WANG Hai-Jun
    2013, 47 (6):  87-94.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1735KB) ( )
Selective dissemination is an important characteristic of early modern Chinese intellectuals'effort to spread Marxism. From the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, early modern intellectuals,in light of the historical context of the time and based on the interests of the respective classes they belonged to,translated and spread the Manifesto of the Communist Party selectively, catering their work on it to their own specific needs.Such a process branded the Manifesto's introduction to China with a feature of localization from the very start, making it adopt a prominent Chinese aspect until it finally won wide acceptance among Chinese citizens and helped construct the theoretical system of Marxism in the Chinese context.Early modern intellectuals, hailing from various classes, had widely divergent aims and political stances.A systematic appraisal of the selective earlyphase spread of the Manifesto in China and its subsequent historical influence, therefore, will be helpful to the further promotion of Marxist theory in today's China.
