Production and Mode of Production in the Light of Historical Materialism
    ZHOU Jia-xin
    2009, (11):  5-11.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1984KB) ( )
Production and mode of production are key concepts in historical materialism. The concept of production is not an abstract starting point, but a concrete notion that includes social relations. It was during the rise of the modern world that production came to be viewed as forming the basis and was then reflected in the history of thought.Understanding social and historic situations from the perspectives of production and a particular mode of production is an essential point of historical materialism. This view has radically reversed previous ideological ideas.

Modern Interpretation of Marx’s Theory of Social Form
    ZHANG Liang, LIU Li-yong
    2009, (11):  12-16.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1452KB) ( )
"Social form" and "economic social form" are two distinguished categories in Marx’s theory of social form.On the basis of these categories,Marx proposed three theories of social form and four types of economic social forms.Researchers today should ponder on the ideological shackles of the five-social-form theory that follows the textbook system of USSR,and properly handle the theoretical link of the two sets of theories so as to prevent the wrong tendency of non-social form.

    Category of Ideology in Marxism
    HU Da-ping
    2009, (11):  17-22.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1222KB) ( )
From the viewpoints of Marx and Engles, ideology may belong to both social being and social consciousness, and yet be isolated from them.To put it more accurately, ideology functions as the media of the two.As a historically developed schema of thought, ideology is no longer viewed as thought itself, but an inert and negative "substance" that regulates thinking and being.Since ideology is reflected in symbol and language,it is considered to be a permanent precondition by structuralism and Althusserian Marxism.

The Category of Class and the Concept of Material in Historical Materialism
    WANG Hao-bin
    2009, (11):  23-27.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1271KB) ( )
The concept of material in historical materialism does not refer to natural material.Instead,it stands for social relations.Marx interpreted human activities under circumstances of specific production relations, and regarded class relations as the essential relations of production, claiming that the course of history was determined by class contradictions and class struggle. This is the basic connotation of the metaphor "economic foundation determines superstructure" and the essential meaning of material in historical materialism. This view also explains why Marxist category of class and class analysis could obtain a methodological basis in historical materialism.

International Financial Crisis and Establishing New International Economic and Political Order
    YE Wei-ping
    2009, (11):  50-55.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1244KB) ( )
The current international financial crisis has resulted from the old international economic and political order, especially the old international financial order. This claim is based on the fact that the old international financial order is the major cause for both the anarchism of international financial market and the lack of adequate means of resolution on the part of the world community in the face of the rapid worldwide spread of the American financial crisis. The old international division of labor and its harm to the economic sovereignty of the developing countries are the important condition for the old international financial order to function, and the increasing gap between the developed countries and the developing countries is the major source of international financial crisis. The old international political order,on the other hand,is not only the major condition of the old international financial and economic order, but also the major ground on which large-scale war might be triggered by international financial crisis.

An International Political and Economic Analysis of the American Investment Protectionism:A Case Study of CFIUS Reform
    DI Dong-sheng, XIA Qing
    2009, (11):  56-62.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1215KB) ( )
Based on a Dual level Bargain analysis, this paper examines the roots, both international and domestical,of the investment protectionism in US.On international level,US’s dual roles as "World Policeman" and "World Banker" are incompatible with each other, especially during her relative declining period, which results in the competition on the "open-protection" policy between different interest groups, governmental institutions and theoretical approaches on the domestic level.A case study on the evolvement of CFIUS since 1975 provides detailed explanation on how the investment protection impulses paved its way in US domestic politics. We argues that China should put the investment protectionism and the CFIUS review standards on Chinese deals into the agenda of the bilateral strategic and economic dialogue so that we could achieve a more balanced and sustainable China-US relationship. In the dialogue on the protectionism issue,China may find common ground from Treasury department of US and should mitigate the influence from Pentagon and house.

    ZHOU Qi
    2009, (11):  80-84.  DOI:

Theories of the "living world" in relevant disciplines are of important significance for development of ideological and political education. However, these theories and terms cannot be directly applied in studies of ideological and political education. The author suggests that they should be analyzed by referring to Marxist concept of practice, including how they have appeared and what their objectives are, interpreted in the light of ideological and political education, and have their connotation defined accordingly. In this way they can be transferred to important viewpoints in the development of ideological and political education.

Life-oriented Education of Beliefs for Young University Students
    LIU Na
    2009, (11):  85-88.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (733KB) ( )
Building up beliefs in Marxism represents the ultimate care for the healthy growth of young university students. At present, the new characteristics of the beliefs of young university students have made it impossible to carry out didactic education of beliefs in terms of sheer theory and logic, for this approach does not live up to the needs of their changing values and ideas. The author holds that a concern for the irrational affective factors of these students leads to an increasing tendency of life-oriented education of beliefs. The paper concludes that an effective approach to helping young university students to select, develop and establish beliefs in Marxism can be found in reasonably guiding the subjective consciousness of the young university students, creating an optimal environment for education of beliefs, and promoting popularization of Marxism in social life.
