Habermas’s Epistemology of Critical Reflection and Its Implications
    LI Shu-mei
    2004, (8):  5-12.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2921KB) ( )
Habermas’s epistemology is marked by critical reflection and released interest. Through retrospect from Kant to Marx in the history of philosophy, Habermas criticized the objectivism of positivism in denying self-reflection and emphasizing only the experienced facts. In the light of this he established his epistemology based on interest and interactive reflection between interest and knowledge. He placed special stress on the function of released interest in this epistemology, believing that released interest manifested a higher level of cognition in form of conscious social critical reflection. And this, he expressed, is the prerequisite of understanding technological interest and practical interest.

On Habermas’s Theories on Civil Society
    CHEN Hong-gui
    2004, (8):  13-19.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2778KB) ( )
Civil society, with its long history, is a concept that embodied in the whole process of Habermas’s academic development. His early theory attempted to explore the historical progress of the public sphere, and thus strongly criticized the reality of capitalism. Later, with the analysis of "colonization of the life world" resulting from introduction of the model of system and the life world along with the intrusion of the system, Habermas discussed reconstruction of life world in the later stage of capitalist society by referring to theories of communicative action in general pragmatics. It is based on all this that he built up his ideal of radical democratic politics characterized by discourse democracy. However, Habermas’s theory of civil society is not without faults, which negatively affected its practical validity.

Analyzing Publicity of Habermas: From Criticism to Integration
    LIU Jian-cheng
    2004, (8):  20-24.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2472KB) ( )
Publicity is an important concept in Habermas’s theory. Habermas systematically analyzed the meaning of the concept and the transition of its function from one of criticism to that of integration during the structural transformation of the capitalist public sphere. Meanwhile, he offered a new interpretation of publicity in the light of his discourse theory. Despite his conservatism, Habermas’s principle of publicity opened a novel perspective for us to study the various phenomena and characteristics of both modern democracy and rule by law.

On Contradiction between Excess Savings and Inflow of Foreign Capital and Solution to the Problem
    CHEN Xiang-guang
    2004, (8):  25-32.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2926KB) ( )
The conventional two-gap model analysis associates introduction of foreign capital with shortage of savings and foreign currency. Thus, coexistence of excess savings and introduction of foreign capital is considered impossible. However, this is not true of the reality of China today where excess savings and inflow of large amounts of foreign capital go hand in hand. This is an indication of both low efficiency in operation of the capital, and disorder and imbalance of savings and investments under circumstances of economic opening-up. The author points out that this problem can be solved neither by controlling savings nor by limiting inflow of foreign capital, as these measures will only intensify the imbalance of savings and investments, and eventually affect our long term economic development. The author suggests that solution to this problem lies in raising efficiency of capital operation and evenly distributing savings from home and abroad. Then, we will be able to adjust foreign capital and foreign investment, in order to raise the balance between savings and investments.

    Social Communication Theories by Marx
    HU Wei-xiong
    2004, (8):  39-45.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2812KB) ( )
Marx initiated the theory of social communication. He believed that communication meant interactive activities among human beings, including such modes as internal communication, external communication and international communication. Communication and production are the determinants of the overall constitution of a nation and its relation with other nations as well. Communication may assume the function of maintaining the current productivity and raising production rate. International communication may lead to formation of "world history", and e-ventually leads to communism and emancipation of the human race.

    ZHANG Hua
    2004, (8):  53-58.  DOI:

This article analyzes the rectification charged by Deng Xiaoping in 1975 through the i-deas he raised and measures he took that year, which were the results of Deng Xiaoping’s reflection over the "great cultural revolution". From that reflection he acknowledged the right approach to socialism the Party had adopted and the new approach he was to adopt against the international situation. These ideas and measures show Deng Xiaoping’s thoughts about socialism well before the "great cultural revolution" was over. His thought has inserted important influence on history later on.

    China’s Energy Security:an IPE Perspective
    Zha Dao-jiong
    2004, (8):  59-67.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (3284KB) ( )
This article applies key concepts in International Political Economy (IPE) and Public Policy to view two of the more prominent issues in considering China’s energy security today:import of energy from abroad and external conditions for Chinese energy industries to enter foreign markets. It argues that policy making should go beyond the management of energy (in particular, oil) import alone and turn concern over the supply aspect of China’s energy security into an impetus for mastering the country’s interactions with the rest of the global political-economic systems.

On Moral and Belief and Their Significance
    HUANG Ming-li
    2004, (8):  83-87.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2467KB) ( )
Belief is a higher level of existence of morals. Moral belief refers to man’s commitment to morals out of their understanding of values of morals in human life. It also stands for a special affection in setting up one’s goals in life. Socialist morality is based on the basic interests of the people and with its dual significance as a tool and as a goal towards both the individual and the society as a whole. It is just this that explains why it is readily accepted by the people.
