Re-examining Relationship between May 4th New Culture Movement and Tradition of National Culture ——A Case Study of New Development of Confucian Theory in the 20th Century
    LI Xiang-hai
    2003, (10):  30-36.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2642KB) ( )
With respect to the Chinese cultural tradition represented by Confucian school, the May 4th new culture movement is, to a certain extent, intrinsic in nature. In a sense it can be regarded as modern evidence of the internal vitality of the tradition of Chinese culture. From the perspective of the general spirit, new development of the 20th century Confucian ideas conforms to the May 4th new culture movement internally. Along the continuity of modernization of the Chinese culture, reconstruction of the Chinese culture by the modern new Confucian school is seen as continuation of the historical task started by the May 4th new culture movement. In fact, the author holds, the May 4th new culture movement and the modern new Confucian school are the most closely linked moves in the path of modernizing the Chinese culture. Therefore, propositions such as "the May 4th new culture movement is totally against the Chinese tradition" and that "the May 4th new culture movement has cut the Chinese tradition" are both questionable.

Neo-liberalism Economic Theory and Economic Globalization
    ZHANG Lei-sheng
    2003, (10):  50-54.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2602KB) ( )
This article holds that the essence of the neo-liberalism economic theory conforms to that of e-conomic globalization, and that "Washington Consensus" by the former is but a form of practical expression of the latter. The author then further elaborates on the harm "Washington Consensus" brings to economic development of the developing countries. The author concludes that if the developing countries are to get rid of their own problems in economic development, meet that challenge of economic globalization and raise their own economic security, they must fight against the neo-liberalism economic theory while participating in the process of economic globalization.

Among the research topics is virtual time and space, which refers to the new changes of social time and space given rise to by virtual practice. Comments on Theoretical Support of Division of Development Stages of Capitalism
    CHENG Bao-liang
    2003, (10):  66-72.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2783KB) ( )
Dividing the 500-year history of capitalist economic system into various development stages is of significance in that it will shed light on our understanding of the regularity of capitalism and on establishment of a research framework for political economics. This article analyzes the criteria used by scholars at home and abroad for division of capitalist development stages in the recent 100 years. On top of this analysis, the author offers his own criteria. The point of departure, the author holds, should be progress in science and technology and development of production. The stages are then identified by evidence of socialization of the capital and its changes in form on the basis of the capitalist system of ownership. The author maintains that this is the most important set of criteria that reflects the reality of capitalist economic development and is in line with historical materialism

Analyzing Realism and Idealism Concepts of International Security
    PAN Guang-hui
    2003, (10):  73-78.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2800KB) ( )
The realism theory believes that every country faces its secure problems under the international anarchical conditions. It also believes the balance of power can solve the international conflict effectively. But some scholars believe that the international security can also be achieved by the great power not by the balance of power. The idealism theory believes that the international security only can be achieved by the common interest, value and criterion among different countries in the international relationship. The two theories can not answer and solve all the problems of the international security but they have promoted the development of the theory of the international security and the construction of the mechanism of the international security.
