    Abstract ( )   PDF (909KB) ( )
Deng Xiaoping’s contribution to theories on the nature of socialism is embodied in three aspects.1.His generalization of the nature of socialism is of highly purpose specific, bearing clear marks of the time with a keen awareness of the reality of China.2.He brings to light the rich intension of the nature of socialism in terms of the defining features that distinguish different social systems, the functions of socialism as a social system, and the position of socialism in history in a most stereoty ped and most abstract way.3.He successfully explores embodiment of the general nature of socialism at its primary stage in China, offering profound elaborations on such essential issues as “what is socialism and how to construct socialism”.

The revolution at 1911 and the New Culture Movement around May 4th Movement marked in the Chinese history the start of the historic process of modernization of chinese philosophy,as well as a departure from the Middle Age both politically and ideologically.Since then a new setup of philosophical studies of the 20th century has emerged.Under this new setup there are three major schools:Marxist philosophy of the Chinese style, the modern new Confucian school, and the positivism school, with Marxist philosophy taking the lead,as its scientific world outlook best meets the needs of the reality of China. The other two have their own merits and specific values. All three exist in harmonious corporation. The Chinese philosophy in the future will continuously be guided by Marxism. With the more profound process of reform under way in China, the enormous changes taking place around the world, and the new achievements of science and technology pushing along, modernization of China’s philosophy will be in line with the process of Marxist philosophy being adapted to the Chinese situations.

Control of Foreign Banks over Financial Markets in China in 1870s
    Wang Jingyu
    1998, (6):  45-50.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (1090KB) ( )
Analyzing control of foreign banks over China’s financial markets is a major research topic of financial activities of foreign capital. With transportation through the Suez Canal open to public and the establishment of telecommunications, foreign business gradually won control of China’s export price, which shook our sovergien rights over foreign trade, and enabled foreign banks to play Chinese financial markets. This,in turn, led to loss of China’s sovereigh rights in our commercial seaports. The author considers this to be the main cause for the frequent financial crises in China. Some foreign banks had even managed to coin and issue their own currencies in China, severely infringing China’s sovereign rights of standard national currency.
