Abstract: Ideological and political education is a new subject with Chinese characteristics with the unity of ideology and science. The most striking feature of this subject is its distinctive ideological nature. Ideology is not only the important research object, vision and reference of ideological and political education, but also has an important influence on its forming and development. At the same time, the part of the research object, the leading research method, the knowledge system and the application of the ideological and political education are not ideological. Therefore, we can not simply attribute ideological and political education to ideological research. To grasp scientifically the basic categories of ideological and political education, such as ideology and non ideology, is the key for ideological and political education to get out of the dilemma of science and ideology. In order to realize the unity of science and ideology of the ideological and political education, we not only need to adhere to Marxism as the guide and foundation, but also to actively improve the effectiveness of mainstream ideology in the social practice, weaken and eliminate the negative effect of non mainstream ideology.
