The Size and Efficiency of Financial Development under Financial Repress in China
    CHENG Hua WANG Bu-he
    2003, (8):  32-38.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2849KB) ( )
The financial sector in China has developed rapidly, especially in terms of the financial size. However, as the Chinese government still keeps a tight control over financial development in many aspects, the market mechanism of the banking sector and the capital market cannot function well. As a result, the financial intermediary and financial market have showed low efficiency with respect to allocating social financial surplus and promoting removal of social capital stock. This has also led to the fragility of the financial system itself. The author concludes that in China the progress of financial efficiency does not keep pace with the progress of financial size.

An Analysis of the Basic Trends of Contemporary Pluralism in the West
    CHANG Shi-yin
    2003, (8):  64-69.  DOI:
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2728KB) ( )
Since the emergence of the post-industrialized society in the 1970s pluralism in the West has turned its attention to culture. Two trends of pluralism political ideas are particularly worth mentioning: the radical pluralism and the mild pluralism. The former emphasizes establishing plural as a consequence of eradicating unitariness, while the latter stresses social integration on the basis of plural. The author holds that it is not right to consider "unitariness" and "plural" as conflicting concepts. The article concludes that a balanced relationship of "unitariness" and "plural" realized on the basis of a dialectic relationship of the society and the state is recommended.
