Abstract: Starting from the latter half of the 19th century till the outbreak of World War I was the first wave of globalization. But real globalization did not occur until about ten years after the end of the Cold War. While globalization has brought about an increase in wealth worldwide, it has also given rise to intensified polarization between the developed and developing countries, and between the rich and the poor. This tendency can be accounted for by various complicated historical and practical causes.
