Abstract: Since the major proposition of “China's independent knowledge system” was put forward, the academic community has carried out research on it at multiple levels, across multiple disciplines, and in multiple fields, with the study of the “independent knowledge system of the Chinese path to modernization” being one such strand. At present, existing research has yet to conduct an in-depth differentiation between the “independent knowledge system of the Chinese path to modernization” and concepts such as “China's independent knowledge system” and the “theoretical system of the Chinese path to modernization”, resulting in a degree of conceptual confusion. The “independent knowledge system of the Chinese path to modernization” and “China's independent knowledge system” differ in their essential connotations and problem orientations, while exhibiting unity in their goal orientations, fundamental standpoints, cultural roots, and methods of construction. The “independent knowledge system of the Chinese path to modernization” and the “theoretical system of the Chinese path to modernization” differ in their content elements and formal characteristics, yet the two are mutually constitutive. On the basis of clarifying conceptual connotations and delineating conceptual boundaries, it is necessary to strengthen foundational, theoretical, and comparative research on the independent knowledge system of the Chinese path to modernization, to erect its foundational framework, to expand its academic depth, and to clarify its global coordinates and comparative advantages.
