Abstract: The diplomatic style of a country includes the diplomatic style of its leaders, its diplomatic team, and that of the state as a whole. Since the start of the new era of reform and opening up, the Chinese diplomatic style has gradually formed to serve for the overall objectives of the state and to meet the needs of our foreign strategies. This style can be described as being peaceloving but independent, generous and courageous, integrity and rational, cautious and decisive, pragmatic and firm, bearing the characters of maintaining hardness and softness, alternating tension with relaxation, being both offensive and defensive, and showing smoothness outside and being unyielding inside. The Chinese diplomatic style has made great contributions to implementation of the Chinese foreign strategies and establishment of a stable international climate in bordering areas. However, under circumstances of the new era, this diplomatic style has met new and tremendous challenges. Thus, certain modification in line with the adjustment of the national foreign strategies is required.
