Abstract: The modernization of people is inseparable from the growth of and interaction with national culture and national spirit. In modern China, in order to resist Western aggression, enlighten peoples intelligence and eradicate illiteracy, nobleminded patriots used the script reform as a breakthrough to explore ways to save the nation from peril. During the period of the War of Resistance by the whole nation, the script reform initiated by the Communist Party of China (CPC) firmly adhered to the path of “adapting to the Chinese context”, implemented the principle of the new democratic cultural construction that is national, scientific and peopleoriented, converted Latinized new scripts and traditional Chinese characters for the peoples use, and built a solid cultural bridge for changing the spiritual outlook of the Chinese people and promoting the modernization of people. In the pursuit of the Chinese path to modernization, to promote the modernization of people, it is still necessary to develop a national, scientific, and peopleoriented socialist culture, give full play to advantages of the modernization of Chinese culture, and increase the supply of quality cultural products and services, in order to provide strong cultural support for the modernization of people.
