Abstract: The veto rights of the five powers in the Security Council have played an important role in the history. This significance not only stands for now but also extends to the foreseeable future. The veto rights are contributive to preserving the stability of the international system centering the UN, the rights of the five powers—especially the inferior ones—and the benefits of the middle and small nations. So far, the veto rights still have sound foundations, and uncritical support for the abolition of the system would be unhelpful in promoting peace and security, or international justice. It is necessary for us to properly interpret the historical and realistic meaning of the veto rights so as to slip the leash of the Westernconstructed discourses. By doing so, we would be able to serve the interests of China and other developing countries in a more rational and determined way and promote international justice on the UN platform.
