Abstract: Prestige diplomacy is a very important area in international studies,although it hasn't received much scholarly attention so far. In international affairs,prestige diplomacy is embodied in a country's abilities to maintain its reputation and status. It consists of four separate yet interrelated elements,namely strategic will,strategic deterrence capability,national reputation and strategic frontier. In the historical process of peaceful development,China should draw on its own abundantly recorded traditional strategic wisdom. Moreover,it should also carry out prestige diplomacy with deterrence,credibility,affinity and creativity in view,shaping its strategic prestige and continuously enhancing its soft power for fuller participation in international affairs.
