Abstract: Marx’s art production theory had been based on studies of material production and spiritual production.Marx insisted on the specific historical form and production mode as the point of departure.He interpreted the final decisive function of material production on art production,and recognized the relative independent nature of art production.He explained the causes for the imbalanced relations of the two,and thus discovered the principles of art movement.The contemporary significance of Marx’s art production theory lies in the following aspects.First of all,it guides us to analyze and understand art from the perspectives of production and consumption;Secondly,it enables us to analyze the essence of art production by means of analyzing the essence of material production,and choose the path of art production under the market economy accordingly;Thirdly,as a special form of spiritual production,art production is inevitably restricted by the level of material production.In short,art develops on the basis of economic development.
