Abstract: Always holding a perspective of the overall situation is a special aspect of Deng Xiaoping theory. According to Deng, the overall situation not only shows the absolute, the unique and the unchangeable, but also possess such characters as relativity, limitation of time and space, and changeableness. Presently, these characters are manifested in the following areas: economic construction, political stability, coastline regions taking the lead in economic development and inland regions following suit, integration of the country, etc. Among these areas economic construction is considered the first priority. Theoretically speaking, perspective of overall situation is an indispensable component of Deng Xiaoping theory, functioning as a link between the preceding and the following in the Chinese Communist Party’s command of overall situations throughout history. On the practical side, application of this perspective offers profound guidance in every respect to the process of socialist modernization as well as implementation of the reform and open-up policies.
