China is the largest developing country in Asia, Japan is the largest developed country in Asia, and ASEAN is the most influential international organization in this region. Obviously their trilateral collaboration and cooperation can be a vital factor in maintaining security in the Asia-Pacific area. In the early years of the 21st century under the circumstances of polarization and globalization of international politics, relationship between China and Japan has made steady progress in maintaining a relationship of “friendly partners in peaceful development”. In addition, China has established with ASEAN countries a “good-neighborly trusting partnership in the face the 21st century”. Likewise, Japan also attempts to seek “profound and lasting cross-century relationship” with ASEAN. This article, therefore, is meant to explore the trilateral interactive relationships among China, Japan and ASEAN from the perspectives of politics and security.
