As a strategy to overcome backwardness, the developing countries show a strong tendency of intervening economy. But the effect of such intervention usually varies with different countries. In Africa and Latin America the state intervention tends to hamper economic development while in East Asia it often promotes economic development.Researchers of comparative politics attempt to explain the interaction between the state and market by referring to the theories of state autonomy, distribution of social control, and encompassing interests.Based on a review of the relevant literature, the author discusses the political factors that have led to different economic performance in developing countries.
