The RussiaUkraine conflict has exacerbated the energy crisis facing the European Union (EU), and the strategic value of Africa as an alternative energy partner has become increasingly evident. This article traces the latest developments in the EUs energy policy towards Africa and argues that, with the considerations in four aspects, ie. energy security, market interests, climate leadership and geopolitics, the EU takes the acceleration of energy transition as the main focus and the natural gas trade as a supplement. In the new geopolitical context, the EUs energy policy towards Africa not only affects the energy transition process in both the EU and Africa directly, but also brings great challenges and opportunities to China, which attaches great importance to Africas strategic value.
