Defining Features and Modernity of Marx’s Theory on Oriental Society

Marxs theory on the oriental society is characterized by the following: First, it has the macro background of“transition from history to world history”; Second, it is built up on dialectics which emphasizes interaction between nationality and universalism involving the contradiction between productive force and productive relation; Third, it stresses historical materialist analysis of the historical background; Fourth, it resorts to integration of historical criteria and value criteria as a means of analyzing the oriental society. The article analyzes these characteristics and further explains modernity of Marx’s theory on oriental society.
