Modern liberalism has maintained its prominent influence on both political conceptions and social political life in the West. Having experienced the developments in the early and mid 20th century as well as the vehement debates with communitarianism and conservatism in the latter part of 20th century, the trend of development of liberalism comes to be more obvious, that is, maintaining personal freedom based on individualism, advocating active and equal personal freedom, moving towards pluralism, and showing concerns with the relation between the government and the market as well as its influence upon personal freedom.
