Under the commodity production condition, the division of labor and commodity exchange relations related to it has led to the social attribute of use-value, that is, the commodity is produced for others and must be useful for them. The social attribute of use-value is the unique category of commodity economy. It is based on the natural attribute of commodity, and corresponds to concrete human demand. Thus, it is essentially different from "use-value". Moreover, in light of the social relations formed in the process of commodity exchange, it is impossible for abstract use-value or utility to become the foundation of commodity exchange and value decisions.

This paper demonstrates some basic propositions of labor theory of value, including those on the two definitions of socially necessary labor, and on the relation between labor productivity and magnitude of value. Except the proposition that the average labor productivity of one sector is inversely proportional to the value of unit commodity, some other propositions, that the ratio of value conversion is in proportion to the individual labor productivity of a firm, and that the magnitude of value of total output of one sector has nothing to do with the sectoral labor productivity are densely argued.

Marxism is, in essence, a methodology of understanding the world. So holding on to Marxist economics means holding on to methodology of Marxist economics, the methodology of CAPITAL in particular. As long as we can understand and apply Marxist economic methodology, we will be able to arrive at new theoretical interpretations of the ever changing economic situations. Only in this way can we expect to develop Marxist economics that agrees with its dialectic nature and fits into the requirement of the modern time.

There are scholars who regard the Western economics as a branch of general science to take the place ofMarxist economics. This paper holds an opposite view. As basic theories of economics always carry definite ideological bearings, so does the Western economics. It not only reflects operational features of socialized production and market economy, but also advertises the capitalist ideology. Therefore,it is necessary that the teachingof political economics not be restricted to the scope of essential relation, On the contrary, it should cover threelevels: 1, studies on the essential social and economic relations; 2, analyses of various forms of economic relations; and 3, analyses of the stimulus-restraint mechanism and behavior of the economic subject.
