    Dialectic Analysis of Dominent Value and Mainstream Value——With Respect to Changes in the Mainstream Value since the Reform and Implementation of Open-up Policy

    For a long time people tend to consider the dominent value and the mainstream value as the same.However,these two concepts are fundamentally different.The dominent value refers to the value that takes the dominant position,and may perform the leading,guiding and normalizing functions to other values.The mainstream value,on the other hand,refers to the value held by the majority in a society or the value that more or less conforms to various other values.The author maintians that distinguishing these two may shed light on scientific analysis and observation of the changes in the Chinese social values since the reform and implementation of the open-up policy.Methodologically speaking,this is of great significance.In other words,changes in the Chinese social values in the process of reform and opening up to the outside world is in essence the changes in the mainstream value,not the dominent value.

    The moral environment outside a university fostered by a completely new relation between universities and the society in the contemporary time demands that objectives of moral education be reexamined and reoriented.The terms"man of the school"and "man of the society"can be applied to indicate two conceptual objectives of moral education at the tertiary level.Since "man of the school"and"man of the society"used to be separated according to the traditional orientation of moral education at universities,one of the objectives today should be integrating"man of the school"and "man of the society",The way to achieve this objective is through innovation of moral education.
