Giddens’s criticism of and reflections on Marx followed the theoretical and practical logics of the formation and development of his modern theory of criticism in his late years, which has been a developing process that focused on interpretation in the early period and emphasized criticism in the latter period. On the whole, this theory covers the foundation of methodology of Marxist historical materialism, and his theories of capitalism and socialism.

The author maintains that the structuration theory proposed by Giddens is not merely a theory of sociology. In fact, it also consists in a concept of social history. It offers a new perspective of analyzing and interpreting human activities in the light of the structure of human society, types of human society and changes of human society. In this sense, it contributes to realization of reconstructing the contemporary Western concept of social history.
