The economic rise of the United States was realized by means of high tariff protection, exclusion of foreign direct investment, and inward-looking economy. The reason why the American seclusion policy could successfully foster the glories of autonomous innovation was attributed to four important factors. They are listed as follows: the basic national policy that supported and protected national industry;the large scale domestic market with a distinguishing feature of equal income;the national innovation system characterized by the key functions of interior perfection, equipment of manufacturing industry;and agricultural innovation system;and organizational innovation concentrated on an economic paradigm of new technological economy and strategic emerging industry.Autonomous innovation is also China’s basic national policy. The essential aspect of reform on our economic development mode lies in the new economic development model led by domestic demands. The successful experience of autonomous innovation of the United States during the period of economic rise offers important historical implications for us.

"Understanding Capitalism: Competition,Command, and Change" offers insightful implications for the coursebook and teaching reforms of political economics.Compilation of this book is problem-oriented with proper level of abstract thinking, which can easily motivate the students to learn this course. As an introductory work of economics it employs a three-dimensional writing system which shows an obvious advantage over the one-dimension coursebook of economics published in the west in guiding the beginners to understand the complicated reality of the world. The book adheres to Marxist tradition of analysis and adopts a pluralist view point by drawing on study results of western economics.Nevertheless, there is also room for improvement. For instance, more attention should be directed to financial capital, innovation and imperialism.

This paper intends to examine the two philosophical bases of mathematical economics formalism, namely, positivism and Bourbakism. It also discusses the nature and internal limitations of the concept of closed system by referring to new findings of scientific philosophy and methodology such as critical realism.Further explanations are offered on why mathematical method based on applicability has limitations, and how it is not necessarily more accurate than non-methematical methods. The paper concludes that economic studies should not be restricted to positivism such as the philosophical concept of closed system, and should turn to an open system and relevant methodology of pluralism.
